Black History Month: 10 African American Women who Changed the World

Black History Month dates back to 1976, when “Negro History Week” was extended  to the month of February. Along  with celebrating black history, the fact that the NAACP  will celebrate its 100th anniversary on February 12 is also celebrated. 10 African American women who had a part in changing their environment and therefore the world are also being celebrated. Here are some names.

1. Sojourner Truth

2. Harriet Tubman

3. Maya Angelou

4. Oprah Winfrey

5. Mary McLeod Bethune 

6. Mae Jemison

7. Zora Neale Hurston

8. Shirlet Chisholm 

9. Angela Davis

10. Rosa Parks
