Finalists 2011 National Book Award


The finalists for the 2011 National Book Awards were announced last wednesday at the Literary Arts Center, in Portland, Oregon. Twenty books by American authors in four categories—fiction, non-fiction, poetry, and young people’s literature—were named. Several books have been featured in The New Yorker. Téa Obreht, one of our 20 Under 40 fiction writers, was nominated for her début novel, “The Tiger’s Wife,” which was excerpted in the magazine.

The awards ceremony will be held in New York on November 16th. Here’s the complete list of finalists for Fiction:

The Sojourn, “ by Andrew Krivak

The Tiger’s Wife,” by Téa Obreht

The Buddha in the Attic,” by Julie Otsuka

Binocular Vision: New and Selected Stories,” by Edith Pearlman

Salvage the Bones,” by Jesmyn Ward
