2011 Man Booker Prize Shortlist


The 2011 Man Booker Prize shortlist was announced. Among the list two debut novels. One is Half Blood Blues by Esi Edugyan. The shortlisted books are:

The Sense of an Ending by Julian Barnes
A middle-aged man is hurled headfirst into an intentionally forgotten past.

Jamrach’s Menagerie by Carol Birch
A street urchan named Jaffy signs on with Mr. Jamrach, a collector of exotic animals, on an expedition to capture a dragon.

The Sisters Brothers by Patrick deWitt
deWitt’s darkly comic western follows two hired guns in the late 19th century as they make their way from Oregon to San Francisco to kill a man.

Half Blood Blues by Esi Edugyan
Long-time friends and musicians Chip and Sidney return to Berlin in to discover what really happened to their friend Hieronymous Falk, who disappeared during the fall of Paris at the start of World War II.

Pigeon English by Stephen Kelman
The coming-of-age of an eleven-year-old who moves from Ghana to inner-city London with his mother and sister.

Snowdrops by A.D. Miller
A British lawyer is seduced by a beautiful Russian woman in Moscow and becomes embroiled in mystery.
